Is this a shorting problem

The other day I was checking all my lights on my 1988 Honda accord and a few of my break lights weren't working. I went to change them out just to find out that none of the bulbs where not burnt out. I then checked them and they where working again. Also if I have the headlights on and i use the left turn signal the driver side headlight goes out as well. I guess what I'm wondering is if the turn signal switch could cause all of this?
