Hey Rich! I just had a heck of a time trying to upgrade my SSD in my 2019 27” iMac. Turns out the 1TB WD Black and the 1TB 970 PRO NVMe’s didn’t work in mine, still not entirely sure why.

However! The 970 EVO 2TB and the Sintec NVMe Macbook air 2013 adapter worked flawlessly with an internet restore boot option.

I also upgraded to a retail i9 9900k and everything works flawlessly!

Thanks Zach,

What was your baseline computer configuration?

Did you use the Sintech short or long black adapter?

Any thermal throttling issues?

Any sleep or hibernation problems?

Would you mind posting your experience, pictures, and benchmarks?

Thanks

Hey Zach, did you record your temperatures (idle & load) between the i5-9600K vs i9-9900K?

Personally I would hold off doing anything internally until the warranty coverage has expired.

No offense Dan, but most people who are coming here to look up how to crack into their brand new sealed iMacs probably don't care much about their warranty to begin with.

You would be surprised! There are a lot that go head first without thinking it through or getting the correct tools damaging their system. Then expect Apple to pick up the pieces.
