Volume Buttons not functioning at all after repairing screen?

I just replaced my ipod touches screen, and now the volume buttons and the lock button arent working. I think i may have damaged the cable that connects it to the logic board. And ideas anyone?

I just did this repair 2 days ago and I had the same issue. Turns out I had torn the cable that connects to the logic board. That cable was for the volume and power/lock buttons. It's so fragile and probably the thing that gets damaged the most when opening an iPod Touch 4th Gen. We are working on finding the part needed to replace the broken cable.

I realised that i tore it when i was prying the metal plate apart. But now the device has the so called "White screen of death", which requires me to use the lock button to get out of (which wont work). Is there a way to get out of this mode without using the sleep/power button? I know the device functions perfectly, because when i hold the home button, voice command comes up, and i tell it to play a song, and it does. Any suggestions?

The cable needs to be replaced. It's soldered onto the logic board. It is possible to do it using a soldering iron and a very fine tip (and a steady hand!). We will have a guide up eventually to detail the process. In the meantime, to get it out of the white screen of death, I would just wait for the battery to deplete and then plug it into an AC power source. That should take care of it I think.

Yep,

Have done the same thing myself once before.

The soldering is a bit fiddly and ideally you should have the battery disconnected/unsoldered as obviously you will be shorting the on/off switch a lot whilst soldering it.

The part you need is this:

I got the same "white screen of death" right after replacing my screen. I let my ipod die and then turned it on and it worked fine. But during my replacement i tore that same cable you guys are talking about and my volume and lock button do not work. I was informed if the cables still there you can try to connect it, otherwise order a new cable and go through the same fun again!
