Scratched soleplate marks some clothing

Most irons today are throw-a-way. As much as I hate saying that the sole plate is often not removable from the tank and controls.

Instead of trying to replace it have you tried carefully lapping out the scratch with some jewelers rouge? First run your fingernail across the area does it catch on a sharp edge? If it does you’ll first need to carefully file the edge down. a Dremel tool with a grinding wheel might be the best tool as you can focus the area to be ground. Then use a cotton wheel with the rouge (start with the course and work down to the fine) use some scraps of cloth to test as you go. Don’t forget to use some paint thinner to clean off the area before using as the wax the rouge dust is held my will need to be cleaned off.
