MacBook won't start after installing new battery

I installed a new battery, it’s a Newertech NuPower Battery.

After installing laptop wouldn’t start. Took apart again, re-checked connections, still nothing.

I re-installed old battery, still nothing. I did the SMC reset, and it started. After a few minutes I shut down and tried re-starting and nothing.

The SMC reset did nothing. I will add that we were having problems with trackpad. I detached the 2 cables, than realized I didn’t have the right screwdriver.

Putting the cables back was a real dog, especially the wider one. Would that be causing the problem? Is it possible they are not in right?

I noticed when I did get it started that the battery was 100%.

The wider cable is the keyboard connection as well as the power button. So if it’s not properly connected the system won’t turn on.

Once you have the proper tools carefully reset the cable. This time take a strip of electricians tape fold over one end to make a pull tab place the tape onto the ribbon below the contacts to help you pull the ribbon into the connector.

Do make sure you’ve not damaged either the clasp or the ribbon cable as that will do you in!

Thanks for the reply. Before I start, not sure I completely understand where the tape goes, and do I leave the tape there after.

The tape is to help pull the ribbon cable into the connector, once in, you could leave it or take it off, which is what I do.

Thanks so much. It started, and the new battery is charging. I may have screwed up one thing. The little 'latch' that opens and closes broke off. The cable is in good, and I put a little piece of scotch tape on the cable to hold it in. I hope that's not an issue. I'm just happy it started. It's my partners computer and she wasn't too happy last night. ;(

Ouch, not good!!

You'll need to find a replacement clasp for the broken one. Did you physically break it or just can't get it back in?

It broke right off. Small thin little piece. Is there such a thing as a replacement clasp ? I just realized something else isn't right. The 3,e,d,c keys don't work. Tells me the cable is till not in right ? They worked once, and then the next time I tried, they didn't. Trying to avoid apple, they will charge me a small fortune.
