Horizontal black lines appear on entire screen, from top to bottom

My 13” MacBook Pro (A1706) suddenly shows black, horizontal, evenly spaced lines, across the entire screen, from top to bottom.

The LCD still appears to display normally, there are just black lines across the entire screen which makes reading small text very difficult.

Has anyone seen this before and could you tell me what exactly is broken/wrong.

Sadly you’ve encountered a similar problem to what these folk have:

Flexgate: The design flaw behind MacBook Pro's "stage light" effect

Apple's 2018 MacBook Pros Attempt to Solve Flexgate, Without Admitting It Exists

In your case the video lines have become damaged. I’m suspecting you likely has a bang on the clutch cover area which damaged it or we have a new flex failure here!

You’ll need a new display assembly to fix this.

Update (03/07/2019)

It's not that simple! As I stated its similar not the same! The tilting of the display won’t change things here. The point was the ribbon cables are the common element.

The outer two cables are the video. You damaged one of these.

Think how a cloth is woven (X & Y). Here one of the X lines has died. In the older series the T-CON board was part of the display, in this series the T-CON board is mounted within the main case and the ribbon cables carry the singles discreetly to the display on the sides and on the top and bottom.

I'm not so sure, opening and closing the lid has no effect on my issue. Also, I don't have issues with the backlight.

I encountered this problem. When the lid is not fully open, my display works perfect. But not when it is fully open, it has black horizontal lines. Is there a fix?

Hi ! I have the ame problem with my MacBook Pro bought in May 2018 .... Did you manage to solve the problem ? Here, in Switzerland, they said me it would cost me around 800 swiss francs to solve the problem... but I was wondering if the problem could be linked to the "flexgate" !

完成的

Yes! The tilting of the lid alters the stress on the cable so it can make and break contact. But unlike FlexGate which was the backlight power lines we have the raster lines that are damaged. Either in the cable its self or the T-CON chip which is also soldered to the cable.

It really doesn't matter as the fix is the same you'll need a new display assembly - Sorry ;-{

Thanks you very much for your quick answer ! Yes, I won't have the choice apparently but will try to obtain something from Apple even if it seems complicate.
