How to remove and replace the touch bar

I’ve replaced two! While its not an easy job it can be done.

The IFIXIT teardown crew was on the right path, you can’t take it off without killing it! After taking the TouchID button off allows you access to the edge to lift the bar from. You’ll need to protect the display and the rest of the keyboard from damage both from heat and solvent. Once you’ve taped off the area with wide Polyimide Tape and aluminum foil use a focused heat gun to heat up the TouchBar so the adhesive is softened up using a small spatula lift the bar off as best as you can without damaging the uppercase. Once the majority of the bar is removed you’ll need to use Goof Off to clean off the last of the adhesive and any pieces that are still present.

But before you go this far I would carefully disconnect the battery and then hookup the new TouchBar to make sure the issue is the bar and not the logic board logic.
