Asus Zenbook UX550VD fan always on and mostly at top speed

Hey,

the taskmanager says CPU below 5%, GPU below 2% and still the fan is not just always on, but most of the times going at full speed. Here are the specs:

i7 - 2.8ghz, 16gb ram, win10, nvidia gtx 1070, 500gb ssd

the ssd says 255gb occupied of 475gb available

Google says I should go into the bios and switch the fan settings, but I couldn’t find it there! Never been in these “new bios”s before, the “ez” mode seems to only give me monitors, and the advanced mode didn’t give me any fan settings.

There are so many tools out there to analyze the hardware and software on your machine, can you recommand a way to find out what the issue is?

Occasions where the fan goes wild, although task manager looks okay:

  • working in Rhino (3d software)
  • watching netflix
  • listening to music on youtube
  • writing in word (!!!)

this is a half year old 1800€ machine. I can expect not hearing annoying fan noises through music for that kind of money, right? I mean.. my old (reeeeally old) machine didn’t kick on the fan in these situations.

Thank you for your help, guys!

R.

Have you tried updating the BIOS? Lenovo laptops used to have this problem that turned out to be a bug.
