Battery needs service/doesn't charge after a case swap

Hi, today I swapped the case of my iPhone SE. Now it only boots but does not charge. In the settings it indicates that the battery needs service. It was around 87% health before the swap. When I try to make a backup it reboots after a few minutes. Did I just kill my battery or is there anything else I might broke in the process? Thanks
