Unresponsive keyboard and trackpad, usbs work

This is a version of some questions that have been asked but I need some help troubleshooting. I took my trackpad out the other day to clean out the gunk that had gotten under there, and accidentally put it back together with the flex cable under it. The cable (trackpad end) is visibly damaged (basically falling apart) and the trackpad and keyboard aren’t working at all. But it works with usb keyboard and mouse. I replaced th flex cable, and that didn’t help, but the cable tests good.

If I unplug the usb keyboard my keyboard types a few letters intermittently. If I unplug the mouse the trackpad is totally dead.

Any ideas? I ordered a replacement trackpad because other components on the trackpad seem like the only possibilities.

Sounds like your trackpad is damaged. I would replace it MacBook Air 13" (Mid 2013-2017) Trackpad.

I replaced it with a compatible trackpad (supposedly) and now it won’t fully boot. I get the Apple loading screen fans runs really high, but it doesn’t boot.

I think it’s the wrong model slightly. I have a mid 2012 a1466, and the cable on the new one won’t even fit into the socket on the logic board. I guess there are differences between 1466 trackpads.

Welp, the right part fixed the trackpad but not the keyboard. I'm thinking there's damage to my keyboard ribbon.

mmm.... Thats not good ;-{ I think your best direction here is to just replace the uppercase MacBook Air 13" (Mid 2012) Upper Case with Keyboard as pulling the keyboard will endup making a mess and you still can't get the keyboard cable only the full keyboard.
