Replacement screen doesn't work with home button cable in board

Hi

I replaced my screen and battery after water damage (moving over my old Touch ID/home button to new screen) - phone appeared dead. I then removed the home button ribbon cable connector from the board (top right of the phone where the front camera ribbon cable etc connects) and noticed the screen fire up.

Phone appears to function fine (using home button accessibility on screen without ribbon cable connected)

Could the home button be damaged and causing a short circuit? Or does it sound like I have perhaps incorrectly reinstalled the button in the new screen?
