How to fix lens error

I have a Nikon Coolpix S2600 that I havent used in years. Last I used it, it had a lens error, it will open and get stuck and then try to open, but won't. I have pulled it apart and nothing seems to be broken, however I think this may have been the camera that got some bourbon spilt on it. It was years ago so I'm not sure. I've done plenty of research and am going to try a few options later tonight, as well as getting another battery. If that doesnt work, would it be worth getting a new lens (NZD $20-30) or find another cheap camera the same as what I've got?

Certainly worth looking out for another camera of the same model offered “for spares or repair” but with a different fault, in fact I’d do that before spending good money on a new battery which you might not be able to use.

You might try moistening the corner of a piece of good quality paper with isopropyl alcohol and running it around between the barrel sections, to see if you can remove any bourbon residues. If not, if you can remove the lens you can test and execise the zoom action by applying a 3V battery pack directly to the zoom motor and maybe get some sort of feel for where the problem is. (See Canon PowerShot SX200 IS Lens Disassembly)

Disassembling the lens may be possible, first by taking off the back by several screws around its circumference. This would allow you to clean any residues properly, but reassembly will take a LOT of patience to get all the barrel and associated components properly lined up.
