How to stop the annoying moisture detected at the USB charging port.

Help! I have a three weeks old Galaxy S9+ and the notification of moisture detected at the USB charging port is keeping me from charging my phone and keeps alerting about the moisture. I live in Michigan so it’s not overly humid. This past weekend, it was rainy and humid and the darn phone wouldn’t let me plug in the fast charger. I didn’t have my wireless charger with me.

Is there something wrong with the phone? Should I return it to Best Buy and ask for an exchange or refund? Help I am conflicted. (By the way I switched from an iPhone 8 for a change of pace.)

Hello all ...I recently had the problem start at work sitting on my wireless desk charger. Got the moisture symbol and when I got home the constant noise. Tried lots of cables, turning off, etc. No joy. So I tried device maintenance in setting, meaning all the battery and other junk, turned off all background programs. I then took a small peice of tissue, thin tshirt material over the charging port and plugged in my charger, cleaned my charging port. This cleaned off small amounts of dirt/debris and the moisture symbol and noise went away. We shall see if this lasts. So far so good over night.

Hello everyone. This problem started to happen to me after i immersed my phone in salty water....into the sea. Nothing worked but AFTER I WASHED THE CHARGING PORT WITH NORMAL WATER ( thinking like washing the salt away) everything worked fine

My phone is 100% dry …… any ideas ?

For now, try charging your phone wirelessly. I have found that it is often an issue with the charge port itself. If you replace the charge port it will fix the issue.

Hey guys had this problem myself and after months of playing around with it I found a solution.

  1. Buy a wireless charger and get enough charge on it to atleast be able to get into settings (2-3% would be enough)
  2. GO into settings and into battery usage
  3. Scroll down to ‘Recent Battery Usage’ and find the app ‘Android System’
  4. Tap on that and then tap on ‘Force Stop’. It had a warning that doing that could cause system problems but all it did was take away the ‘Detecting Moisture’ notification and I was able to charge again.

If you can get passed that I recommend getting a new cable, I went and bought a better one after fixing it and things were sorted. Good luck

There is actually an easy workaround to that error! Just turn your phone off, connect the charger, and then power the phone on. It shouldn’t give you that error when you do that.

You could have dirty contacts in the charging port. I work in a very dusty paper mill and I'll get a moisture warning when the charging port gets dirty. Use 90% isopropyl alcohol or electronic parts cleaner and a toothbrush to clean the port. Then blow it out with canned air if you can.

I found a easy solution to this.

First go into safe mode and find out if its a hardware or software problem. Restart phone, press both volume and power buttons while its restarting to get there. While in safe mode try the charger. If you get the same $@$* its the hardware, so theres some kind of moisture dmg. Follow the drying instructions.

If it goes away then its something in the software or operating system. Luckily i found a quick easy fix. Boot phone normally and just goto setting and use the device maintenance option. This should fix the problems if its a usb cache or memory error.

If problem persists you might have to wipe the storage/disc partition or try clearing cache manually. The details for this you can find easily with a google search. Just type (phone model here) wipe partition OR wipe cache

Allright, hope this helps guys.

Ι've had the same problem with my samsung galaxy s7 edge. It's supposed to be waterproof, so last night when I had a beach party and my phone slipped off my hand and got dirt all over it, I put it's charging port into the sea. I didn't really think of it until I came home and the detector kept going off. I didn't do anything then, but today, I rinsed it off with clean water and used a toothbrush and a swab to clean the dirt off. I used a blow dryer to its lowest level and blow dried the water off. The problem was solved.

Use Android System Recovery Option to bypass Moisture detected at 0% charge.

When phone is at 0% and it shuts down, the moisture detected error doesn’t let the phone charge even if left plugged in for hours. The screen shows 0% always.

However, the phone charges if it can be turned on till home screen. So I tried a method and it worked for me:

1. Let the charger be plugged in the phone.

2.  Press & hold these buttons together: power + volume up + Bixby

3. Android logo will be displayed. Installing system update will show.

4. Press the volume down key several times to enter android system recovery option screen.

5. When you arrive at recovery option screen, Leave it as it is for 10 to 15 minutes. The phone will charge to 5 to 10%.

6. Select "reboot system now" (use volume up/down button|) and press the power button.

The phone will restart and you will see the full screen and charge %.

From there on you can keep charging without the annoying message.

Both my wife and I have this endless problem with Galaxy S9 phones, and our USB ports are aways bone dry. So this is obviously caused by the careless programming of the operating system. Every warning like this should allow the user to turn it off, even permanently. And no warning like this should ever totally disable the device, by not allowing it to charge. If it disables the device by pretending to protect the device from being disabled, it causes harm and does no good. It is actually a destructive virus approved by the company and shipped with the device. So it is time for a class action lawsuit suit against the companies like Samsung.

I have to carry a wireless charger with me at all times because of this crap.

At one point, I plugged it in, got this crap, plugged it in a different wall outlet (without ever taking the charger out of the phone) and it was fine.

*This has only worked once, though.

Other times, I've left the phone plugged into the charger and simply unplugged it from the wall outlet so I could take it to work. I plug it in there and get the %#*@ moisture warning.

If someone made a petition to get Samsung to fix this, I'd sign it. And I know several other people who would sign it. There's gotta be some way to make them fix it.

I know most of you will say get a different phone, but I can't really. I'm visually impaired and Samsung has the best features to help with that (I've looked into all the other brands my carrier sells and none of them is very good for that.)

The moisture sensor is fairly sensitive, so if you have been holding the phone while covering the charge port, it is often enough to trigger the sensor.

If you are sure the phone is completely dry and you are still having the issue, the only real fix is to replace the charge port flex as it has the moisture sensor on it. If you really need an immediate way to charge it, you can charge it wirelessly until you get it fixed.

Some people have had success powering off their phone, then plugging it in, then powering it back on. Once the moisture sensor is faulty, this trick will not always work though.

Same issue with my Galaxy Note 9. Approximately 1 year since I purchased this phone and today morning , here comes the great error related to moisture while charging and with 0 % charge I am stuck. Read through all the notes and videos, which did not work. The one that worked is the below one - Press the Volume down and Power keys together and plug the charger in. Keep the keys pressed for a while so that the battery can charge for some time and then it showed the 0% .(I had been keeping the keys pressed all this while). Released the keys after seeing 0% and it seems like the phone is charging still and currently at 6%. So looks like somehow the error has ben bypassed. Not sure what pressing both the keys did. This has to be a software issue or somehow this approach bypassed the sensing and triggering mechanism, that throws the error.

I had a problem with a Note 10+ but seemed specific to a certain high speed charger and thunderbolt USB-C to USB-C type connector cable.

Always got the wet port issue over weeks of time, so not actually due to water.

1) If you have a high-speed charger with USB-C on both ends of the cable….first try simple reversing the cable connections between the phone and the charger by flipping the cable end-for-end.

2) If that doesn’t work, try a new cable and/or charger and see if that helps….maybe not the phone at all.

For me (1) worked for awhile. Then had to go to (2) when problem returned.

After replacing the USB-C to USB-C cable with another brand, the problem immediately vanished. Maybe it doesn’t like Thrunderbolt 3 cables?

I am royally confused about this issue. About six months ago, I had the warning for days, and no solution worked for me. Then, the port completely stopped working altogether and was only chargeable through wireless. I was about ready to return for a warranty when the message came up again after nothing for months of use, and I have not plugged anything into the USB C connector all this time. So for the sake of sanity, I tried to plug it in with the original cord, and it started to charge with no moisture warning! There was an update about a week ago, but that’s the only thing different I have done with my Note 10+.

In closing, check for an update for your phone and use the original cable. Yes, I know it’s not everybody’s solution, this is just my experience, and I wanted to share.

Further to my post on the 11/30/2019 confirming what the OP had posted works.

It is worth mentioning….

What I have noticed subsequently is whilst the Galaxy S9 now doesn't detect moisture and chargers with the cable….

if the battery dies 0% and regardless that the phone may have dryed out over time the phone suddenly stops charging with the cable. Instead it keeps beeping as if there is moisture and you can't bypass this moisture sound notification because the phone has not booted so that you can goto the system settings.

So I had to purchase a wireless charger to get around this. Put the Galaxy S9 on wireless charge and once the battery is at 1% you can plug in the cable to take over the charging!

I had the same problem for months on my Note 9, tried everything you can find to fix it online, even had it diagnosed as having a bad charging port that needed replaced by a Samsung certified repair facility. Thank God I didn't go through with it. I use wireless charging everywhere. A couple places in my house, at my desk at work and in my car. So I honestly never needed to charge through the cable. But the fact that I couldn't hook my phone up to my laptop to transfer files or anything where I would need to hook to my pc (ADB, etc) irritated me. Back in June my phone had an update, not the One UI update, got that a while back, but some “bug fixes and security" update (6/14/20). Since that update my phone has been working perfectly. Glad I didn't fork up the cash for the charge port replacement! I feel bad for those that did and were also told that was needed to fix the problem! Pretty shady if you ask me. All good now though…

So I have been dealing with this issue for the last few days, I just resorted to a Factory Reset and now have to go back and fine tune everything. Well guess what I cannot becuase I cannot CHARGE my phone. I have to say that I HATE the GALAXY NOTE 10+. The screen dims in bright light, I have never been able to wirelessly charge it in or out of the Otter Box and NOW Moisture in the charging port. Um NO, I do not care that it is waterproof: My crappola expensive “Gift” to myself lives in an Otterbox Case that keeps dirt and moisture out of the charging port. Hi all, Had this problem on my galaxy note 10 plus. It happened on all cables both aftermarket and samsung. It got to a point where it wouldn’t reset for almost 24 hours. I spoke to my retailer and he told me its a known fault and his did the same thing. Basically i ended up sending it to my telco who replaced the charge port. It is not software related. I never found out the actual cause but im thinking that something gets caught in the charger outlet and slightly damages the pins in the charge port in the phone. Anyway, no issues since replacement.

Okay so the below fix worked for me but first try cleaning the connectors with isopropyl + dry it out with a desiccant (proper one, 24 hours, not rice). If it still gives you a warning when you turn it off and plug the connector in then it’s likely a hardware issue and is caused by the Fast Charge function. A new USB C port soldered on may fix it but otherwise it’s a whole new motherboard to fix it if my solution below doesn’t work.

Turn off Phone, plug a USB A (standard USB one) end into a power on PC and plug the phone into the other (don’t use a C-C connector as they are often set to fast charge) and turn the phone on. This lets you charge and you won’t get the notification but it will return if use the standard charger. To fix this, go into device management and disable Fast Charging. Then you can go back to your standard charger and you won’t have the issue again.
