When a press any button on the clickwheel the screen will light up but I cant get it to do anything else. Then after the screen timeout it wll go blank again. I tried resetting it by pressing the center and top buttons but no help. It will reset with the Apple logo and go blank again.

Since you are able to reset the ipod i would suggest you to go into diagnostic mode on your ipod and test every functionalities.

Diagnostic mode should find out if there is any hardware issues. if you find such issue replace that part. But if there is any issue with the buttons, the problem is it is attached to the logic board. You need to find a radioshack where they replace the buttons or replace the entire logic board it self
If it still doesn’t work try restoring your ipod on Itunes.
