How can I repair the hot water dispensing system from turning on at random?
This applies only to the hot water system; the coffee maker/brew system works fine. The hot water system turns on and off at random. This problem started about one week, ago. CHW-12 unit is about 4 years old.

the heating coil need to be replace
it get overheated quickly due to been weak and turns back on when it’s cool down which is at your own inconvenient time

This is not the condition. The hot water system turns ON at random, when it is not being used. The heating element and the water in the reservoir are at room temperature; at random, the unit turns on. This hot-water system has been used so infrequently, the heating element and reservoir are like brand new. The first time it happened, there was no water in the reservoir, so the low-water red LED was blinking, when it came on.

Access to the electrical connections and the controller for both the coffee brewer and for the hot water system is from underneath the base of the unit. I have removed one of the electrical connections to the heating element. This did not change the random on/off behavior of the the hot water system.

The ghost has appeared in our home, as well. I imagine this has something to do with the dead people who once lives here. They may have liked tea more than coffee. It seems like we will make coffee, then an hour later the hot water turns on like someone in the afterlife is pressuring us to make them something else. Have you noticed any other issues? Does it only go on when you don’t make Starbucks? Does the fridge door open if you forget creamer? I’m determined to catch this ghost. I have set up some traps and a tape recorder. Someone should get ahold of those guys on Discovery or History Channel.

We have the same coffee maker and the hot water side started doing the same thing. We don’t know what’s going on. Like you, we rarely used that feature and it turns on without the coffee side being on too. Did you get your problem solved?

I also have this coffee maker and it has worked relatively well for the last 5 years. I have had issues with the coffee brewing over the top of the carafe for some reason and now the hot water side turns on randomly without having water in it. Yesterday the coffee side was on as well. We are to the point we unplug it until we are ready to use it. I'm just going to buy a new machine, but it's nice to know it's not just mine having issues.

Mine is doing this as well. I just read that a clogged filter causes coffee maker to turn off during brew cycle. I just started having that problem, too. Sure enough, there were coffee grounds in my water filter. I am guilty of ignoring my water filter change, because they are harder to find in the store. I love this coffee pot and do not want to get rid of it. I like my hot tea in the evening.I am going to try the filter change.
