unit will not come off of the degrader mode

the coffee maker warms up as normal then goes to the empty degrader mode. it stays in that mode regardless of any thing we do, such as open the door , empty the degrader clean the machine. We can change the mode to energy saving but turning it on goes back to the full degrader mode. We tried unplugging the unit but that didn't"t work either
