OS-X El Capitan install from pkg

Hi, as per a suggestion to download El Capitan from a direct link being

http://osxapps.itunes.apple.com/apple-as...

I now have this file and am unable to use it to create a usb, I have later read a whole process may be involved to link the download to a local host ect.

I just clicked on the link to download, now I'm out of mobile data till the end of the month if there is no way for me to use this file.

Can anyone help please :-)

Update (04/23/2018)

When I click on the package it says:-

The operation couldn’t be completed. (com.apple.installer.pagecontroller error -1.)

Couldn't open "ftk3252456602304584541.pkg".

This is not a real Apple download! I recommend you don't use this file! You need to get the real file from the Apps store from a Mac system that is working.

You'll need to create an install USB Thumb drive following these instructions: How to make a bootable OS X 10.11 El Capitan installer drive

The installer won't work without being mounted from a different drive or partition that is Mac OS-X/macOS.

But before you go down this path how about telling us a bit more on why you think you need to install the OS.

Thanks for the reply, I went the long way….. Then I found my Snow Leopard disc !

I was setting up a 2009 iMac, El Capitan was the best it could do. But the old OS-X did not have the app centre. I could only find .pkg download. In the end I got it to work as I had limited time, the next week I found some old Leopard disc that I could have used to make things a little easier.

All is running well, now it’s just the constant tutoring of a 76yr senior who has never used a Mac let alone a pc.
