Phone turns on but the screen is dead.

I dropped my phone halfway into water and it started spazzing out. Turned it off and left it in rice for a couple days. The phone would turn on but the screen was dead. I took it to a repair shop and they said the back light was the problem but they could not fix it. They said that since huawei is not as popular as samsung or apple, that they could not get the schematics for the phone to repair it.

Is there a way to get the internal data, such as my contacts, off the phone or should I try another repair shop or just give up on the phone and get a new one?
