Computer won’t turn on

So it started with the power pin being pushed in, I tried to open it up and it didn’t work so I took a break and left it. My dad the genius(sarcasm), decided to do it for me by heating up a knife and making it hot and burning through the plastic around the charge port and pulling it out. He got it, the pin is back but not the computer won’t turn on and like even when I plug in the charger there’s no light it’s purely dead. Any ideas on how to reverse the damage he did?

Hi,

Here is a video that shows how to open your laptop to gain access to the DC-In jack so that it can be replaced.

You will need soldering skills and tools to effect the removal and replacement of the part.

Here is a link to just one supplier of the part.

It is not a recommendation to use them. It is shown to give an idea of the cost of the part. There are other suppliers online that may suit you better. Just search for Asus X44H Dc-In jack part to get results.

if you find doing this is too daunting, contact a reputable, professional laptop repair service and ask for a quote.

You already know the cost of the replacement part. (send the bill to your father ;-)

Hopefully this is of some help.

So the problem is most likely stemmed by the dc in jack like it’s not like he scorched something bad or maybe a piece of plastic fell in and like broke something? Because there’s literally a hole into the computer where the dc in port is with like melted plastic surrounding it

Hi,

As the DC-In jack is normally soldered onto the motherboard applying heat to it the way it was done may or may not have also affected the motherboard

You won't know the extent of the damage until you open the laptop and inspect the motherboard and everything else immediately around the damaged area
