Can't log in--user disappears from screen

boots up fine, however I cannot login because the user only shows for a second & then disappears. I have tried with and without it being attached to the keyboard & I have tried flipping the screen, The same thing happens..user shows and disappears. Help!!! When user disappears it goes to regular microsoft screen background with date and time on it.
