Why wont my Brother MFC-J6520DW switch on?

I am having the same problem my mfc-j6520dw printer, as with some other printers, in that it wont switch on. I hold down the on button and plug in the power cable the white house light comes on and then goes out after a minute. Previously the screen would come on and ask for the paper tray to be replaced but this does not happen now. Has anybody else had this and how have you fixed it. Thank you.
