Why did my printer completely stop printing black all at once?

I printed 3 pages of text in black perfectly and then the 4th page was totally blank with no black ink printing at all. All colors still work but no black. I have a new cartridge and have reset the printer, cleaned the head, cleaned the electrical contacts, etc. and still no black.
