Damaged case in a drop, now has stopped charging

I stupidly dropped my 17" mac book pro whilst putting it in it's case.

It fell on the corner where the magnetic power supply plugs in, and deformed the case.

Luckily everything worked on it, and still does.

I could always get it to charge after playing about with the plug a bit.

Now it refuses to charge, and i get no light on the power connection, green , or orange ?

Noticed the damage, deformation wasn't allowing the plug to seat properly, as it was out of line. So carefully removed the cover , and power connector, and gently tapped the case back into position.

The plug is now clear and seats properly, but still no charging, the comp. worked until the battery drained.

My question is can I get a new case / chassis, as it looks pants ?

Has anyone had this done ?

What's the Apple repairs like ?

Any idea of cost ?

This was a top of range i7 unit, and is too good to bin, so willing to spend a bit on it .

Any recommendations for UK based repairers would be appreciated !

Cheers,

Mel....

Replacing the lower case is something you could do. Here's the IFIXIT guide: MacBook Pro 17" Models A1151 A1212 A1229 and A1261 Lower Case Replacement its a fair amount of work but something one could do them selves.

As for Apple fixing it sorry to tell you they no longer service this series (Apple Store) some authorized service centers will still work on them as well as independent repair shops.

I would first try replacing the Left I/O board which is where the MagSafe connector is located. Here's the IFIXIT guide to get to it: MacBook Pro 17" Models A1151 A1212 A1229 and A1261 Left I/O Board Replacement

Hello,

you can get some original bottom base chassis on ebay. I think you could repair it yourself because for every macbook you need to take down bottom side to get to the components so almost every article says how to take it of.

I believe in you. Good luck.
