What are the differences between the 9.7" iPad Pro released in 2016 and the 9.7" iPad released in 2017?
Whats the difference if the iPad will be used mainly for photography processing (24.2 MegaPixel DSLR input) and possibly for recording music (GarageBand or other software)?

Here's the specs of the two models:
Keep in mind these are the same physical size the bezel's are smaller on the newer unit giving you an effective screen of 10.5".
Putting aside the amount of storage 7.9" 32, 128, 25 GB Vs 10.5" 64, 256, 512 GB and if you also want cellular connectivity the newer model also has a more powerful processor Apple A9X processor Vs Apple A10X processor and RAM 2 GB Vs 4 GB so it will offer much faster image processing.
If I had a choice I would go for the 10.5" model.

I would recommend getting a good external battery pack as well as a WiFi storage drive. That way you can off load your work to a backup ASAP. While a cellular connection would be ideal to push your stuff to the cloud depending on where you are going that may not be a viable option (slow and/or expensive).
Thanks for the information and the opinion. Very helpful. I had been looking primarily at the 9.7" models, and hadn't considered the 10.5" 2917 Pro model in the mix.
