External Drives function and Source display

When I play DVD through External Drive the TV does not recognise this and stays in DTV mode. When I attempt to change by going to Source nothing is displayed. If I switch off power at mains and then switch on Source is displayed and External Drives function normally. However, when I turn off TV by remote and then turn on Source and External Drives are lost.
