Loss of mouse and keyboard function after login

I opened my MacBook and found that the Sleep sensor/battery light indicator cable is severed. Could that be the cause of my bad keyboard and mouse? Also when I plug in an external mouse/keyboard my Mac is unbearable slow and laggy
