How can I remove the jammed battery?
The battery is jammed in camera and is not holding a charge. I need to replace it but it is stuck in the camera. How do I go about removing the old battery and where can I get a new one?
Your battery is bad. It probably has expanded so that it is now jammed against the case and metal memory card separator. Otherwise, the battery would just fall out when you release the battery lock at the bottom of the battery. If you are lucky, the battery has not yet leaked. You will have to pull the battery out manually. This can be hard to do because you cannot easily get a grip on it. I removed my battery that failed this way by inserting a sharp pointed knife into the side of the battery case near the end of the battery so that I could pry the battery out. Note that when you do this you will puncture the battery seal and allow internal liquid and gas to escape. So turn the camera so that nothing runs back inside the camera body. If the battery is stubborn, try to work around the bottom prying from different angles a little at a time. You may be able to slowly rock it loose. The battery is a Samsung SLB-10A. The battery is cheap and readily available on Amazon and other sites.
I agree with bscrowe. I’ve just taken mine out following their advice:
You can see how much the sides are bulging out. Now that the battery has been removed, the SD card comes out like normal too.
If you watch a video like this
you’ll see that you want to be VERY careful not to puncture the battery getting it out. Lithium Ion batteries are DANGEROUS to puncture!!!
I managed to gently lever it up about 3-4mm with the tip of a pen knife, which was enough to grasp the top of it firmly with wide, flat ended pliers, firmly enough to drag it out, but gently enough to not crush it.
Pulling it up with the knife broke the plastic case, but I was careful not to puncture the inner metal container.
I used a 7/64 drill bit to put a hole in the negative end battery. I then put in a # 8 deck screw. Using a pair of pliers I was able to get a good grip and managed to get it out. The other one came out easily.

I had this same problem. After reading the responses here, I used a thin spatula (used for frosting cakes), it is thin and not sharp. I was able to carefully wedge the spatula between the battery and the camera without puncturing the battery. After a few tries I got it out!

Karen, I tried your trick with my LG G5 and it worked on the first try! Thank you!
