disc drive trys to eject every time on boot once turned on

so my disc drive when powered on tries to eject a disc but there is nothing inside. idk what it could be, ive taken it apart to get to the disc drive to verify nothing was stuck. mind you i just bought this off someone who said it was working perfect and i took his word for it. anyone know what it could be? please help!

It would go into eject mode stop, than the door would close not allowing me to insert a disc. I have taken it apart and tried it with more and more pieces each time powering it on and seems the metal shroud was causing it I bent it a little upward as it was pushed down and seems to be okay AS OF NOW lol hopefully it stays that way

Im having this too, so just bend the shroud up or loosen it?

Other than it trying to eject at startup, does the drive otherwise work normally? That is to say, does it go into "eject mode" at startup and keeps trying to eject forever, or does it go into "eject mode" at startup and then stops after a little while and then you can insert a disc and everything works fine afterwards?

First thing to try is cleaning around the eject button. It's possible something sticky got in there and the button is being held down . Unplug the device, get a toothbrush and a bit of isoprypyl alcohol (91% or better), dip the brush in the alcohol and scrub around between the button and the case. Wipe it down, allow it time to dry, then reconnect and give it a go.
