Why won't my sixas motion sensor work? I have tried everything!

I have a sony dualshock 3 ps3 controller and it also has sixaxis. I didn't realize until today after having this controller for about 2-4 months now but my sixaxis motion censor doesnt work. I have just realized now because very few games have the sixaxis motion sensor. I have tried literally everything i have cleaned it i have reset it resynced it. I'm not sure if i should get a new part but i am trying to avoid getting a new part. If anybody has any idea in how to fix my sixaxis motion sensor please help.
