Reset to factory settings

I have a question about resetting to factory. Does it for sure wipe all traces of data from the hard drive. The reason I asked is because I wanna take back and don't want any of personal information on it. It's already picking up my wifi connection and I didn't set that up yet? Please let me know as soon as possible. Thank you.
