Seagate 1TB SATA 6GB/s 64MB Cache 2.5-Inch Internal SDHD (ST1000LX015)

I need to upgrade the HDD in my MacBook Pro and want to know if the Seagate 1TB Firecuda Gaming SATA 6GB/s 64MB Cache 2.5-Inch Internal Hard Drive (ST1000LX015) is compatible with my MacBook Pro 15" Mid 2010?

I see the older model - Seagate SSHD 1TB/32GB (ST1000LX003) is compatible but I want to be sure the newer model is also compatible before I go ahead and order the Momentus XT.

Your system only has a SATA II (3.0 Gb/s) SATA port so you are limited on what you can use.

Seagate's documentation on their site is still a bit of a mess! The 2.5" Firecuda drives SSD cache size is only 8GB. I spoke with a Seagate person a few weeks ago as I was trying to get information on the older 32 GB SSHD of the drive which is no longer being made. I was also disappointed to learn the new Firecuda drives will no longer offer auto speed sense technology it is now a fixed SATA III (6.0 Gb/s) drive.

Sadly, the bottomline here this drive won't work in your system reliably. You'll need to get the older Seagate SSHD drive. Here's the spec sheet for the older line: Seagate Laptop SSHD. If you look across the two spec sheets you'll see the SATA interface line only offers SATA III in the Firecuda drive unlike the older drive which lists all three SATA speeds.

Having only a SATA 2 port on your laptop does not limit what is available, it only limits the speed of the drive. A SATA 3 drive is backwards compatible and will run no problem, but it will only run at SATA 2 speeds.
