NVIDIA GPU makes system restart

I have MacBook Pro 15" (Mid 2010)

I recently upgraded my RAM to 8GB and added an SSD drive. Now every time I open my mac (from sleep) within a minute it restarts, it also happens when I power it us as well.

I thought it is a problem with RAM, but after a few tests I realized that the problem is due to the NVIDIA chip on the Mac and any graphics/video intense operation is making the kernel panics.

I want to replace the logic board, as Apple officially stopped support for these machines now they told me to go to an external mac-repair places.

I am thinking to replace the logic board my self. Are there any good options available for me?

IFIXIT users please help me on this!

It's most likely C9560 causing your issue, a tantalum capacitor for the MCP voltage line. Usually this is bad, which randomly causes the Macbook to crash.

Grab a schematic and board view for your board, and replace this cap with a polymer one (will have to scrap to extend the ground pad). If you don't have experience soldering, take it to a 3rd party repair centre who can do this.

@reecee - I agree with Reece, this is known issue. It is an easy fix of a board level tech to fix. I've faced this quite a few times. Apple did not place the cap in the best of locations as the board tends to get a bit hot in this area which degrades it over time. To add to this you may also want to do a thorough cleaning of the system as dust collection on the logic board and fan's tends to add a bit of heat to the mix.

Also see if the tech can refresh the thermal paste on both the CPU & GPU's.
