Phone keeps restarting showing logo screen, can't do anything

July 26 my phone died on me. Let me explain just in case any of this helps to figure out what the heck happened.

I was bored of the apps on my phone so I opened up the Google Play store and as soon as it opened up my screen blacked out. I tried to turn it back on, but it just showed the Samsung logo and powered off, and it would repeat that. When it does that it heats up fast.

So, six months later, I turn on my phone after finding it and it powered on fine and the lock screen showed up. I tried to remember my password, but after several attempts it froze and started its stupid cycle again.

I tried reboot recovery, but the screen freezes before I can select an option. I take out the battery and put it back in and turn it on, still does the cycle.

When it gets cold and I leave it alone for awhile and turn it on it will go all the way to the Verizon screen and it will freeze. Its only went to the lock screen four times and all times it freezes and I can't try more password combinations or anything else. I have a lot of important info on that phone along with pictures and I can't afford to take it to get repaired.

Can I do anything to fix it myself? Or recover the photos if fixing it isn't an option?

Update 1-13-17:

I got a bit more progress with my phone. It seems the longer I leave it alone, the more time I have on it. I figured out my password and the longest I stayed on it was 5 minutes. I noticed that in my contacts and pictures, some of the things I had deleted long ago appeared. That might be because I tried the reboot recovery mode, but I never got the chance to actually do anything.

@fwsantarctica Try removing the battery and holding the power button down for a minute or so ,this drains the residual power from the phone and dumps the memory . Then replace the battery and reboot the phone. Once you have the phone on and have the password entered don't touch it from here don't do anything to activate any apps, just connect it to a computer and remove your data once you recovered what you want do a factor reset . It does sound like you have a virus

Have you tried booting it into safe mode? You may have a malicious app causing all of this
