CMOS (BIOS) battery flat?

My ASUS A6JC laptop has a flat CMOS battery. The symptom is every startup it asks to reload the default values. When started the time is 1200 May 2006. Other than that, no problem.

It is an annoyance really, this has been a pretty good laptop, have had to replace screen, $100 from eBay and a new battery.

I have removed every cover and can't seem to find the battery. Parts sites with pics suggest it is a CR2032 with leads to a small 2 pin plug, I just can't find it!

Before I disassemble the whole thing, please can someone put me out of my misery and point me to the obvious that I am missing.

Thanks in advance.

Dean: For some reason the picture of your laptop isn't displayed. Could you name the manufacturer and model instead? The CR2032 is a coin-cell. It looks like a fat quarter. About the same diameter as that coin, but slightly thicker. Typically there's a small housing soldered to the motherboard that the battery slips into.

If you find it and replace the battery I suggest you avoid a very popular and heavily advertised battery brand (think bunny beating a drum) and go with a Japanese company that starts with a "Pana" and ends the word for sound.

Heh heh heh.

This brand lasts at least three times longer than the bunny brand.

If you can't find it, after you have taken the entire laptop apart for the LCD screen replacement, ( Once dissembled it should be easy to find) it might be on the other side of the motherboard, requiring you to remove the motherboard for replacing the battery.

More then likely once the laptop is apart, it is a small connector in plain view with leads that run to the battery, which may be tucked under part of the frame or underneath the motherboard.

I was not able to find any diagrams or pictures for this motherboard anywhere.

Maybe someone else could do better then I.

Agreed--the best I could find was an owners manual for sale with no guarantee it would help the OP. +

According to my research this is the motherboard for the A6JC. I found the image on a popular auction site and blurred out the manufacturer name. The battery holder has a red arrow pointing to it. Just across from the holder is a connector you may be able to identify. I believe that connector to be internal, but if external would be on the left side of the netbook, screen facing you.

I believe, looking at the laptop and placement of the other I/O, the battery is to the left of the touchpad under the case where your palms typically rest.
