How to fix missing pads

Hello,

So long story short a was repairing a 5c board and ripped off 5 pads in the process. 3 pads are missing from the sim connector and 2 by the top right on the back. Here's some pics. How do I fix it? Or would it be easier to just an it to a microsoldering place? Also on one of the pics I tried to scratch off the soldermask to see the trace but i might of killed it more.

Hi @gigabit87898. Do you have access to a boardview tool like ZXW Tools? There's also a "free" version (it's not quite as nice but still functional) that can be found.

IMHO, if you are doing any level of micro-soldering repairs, you really need to have access to these tools. Otherwise, you are in deep doodoo if you make a mistake. Honestly, ~80USD (for ZXW) is cheap when you consider what you are charging for micro-soldering repairs.

For your phone, chances are you can run some jumpers to fix your board. I think giving you step by step connection points is beyond the scope of this forum. Go to my profile and find my website so that you can contact me directly. I'll give some info on the "free" boardview tool if you like. - Good luck!

I don't have any money rn, I was going to buy like 200 worth of phones to fix and make like 100 bucks, then but more phones, repeat :) but I don't have ZXW or any of the super fancy tools, I have schematics but that's really all. What is the free program called?

You need to download the free PADS Layout Viewer from Mentor Graphics. Then sign-up at GSM Hosting to find the boardviews. If you can't find them, then reach out privately.

@refectio thanks, I will try it when I get my new laptop. (I have to wait 10 days, that like a bajillion years to me D:)

You will need to run wires, or scratch the solder mask to reveal the traces which you can then solder to, so you are on the right track.

Might be difficult if the solder points are under the sim reader itself. I don't repair phone logic boards myself anymore, but the signals/voltages have to go somewhere. Just use a schematic and board view to find out where, and run enamelled copper wire between the points.

Chances are, if you can't do this with the right tools, another place won't be able to. If some of the signals go directly under the CPU, I would say you are screwed :(

Thanks, I think the traces for the sim reader go directly underneath the baseband... How would I scratch the solder mask without damaging the traces underneath?

完成的

Use sharp tweezers and lightly scratch left and right along the trace. Stop scratching when you see copper, careful you don't dig too deep, otherwise you will get to ground.
