My sprint (L3) button regularly fails mid sprint

I have three DualShock 4 controllers, one being a Scuf, and they all have this issue after having owned them for a year or so. While sprinting in game the character will just stop, and it's often very hard to get moving again, requiring several attempts at clicking L3 while holding forward. Is this a joystick wear issue? As on the right hand stick on one of them it is very slow when rotating left. I'm wondering if I'm hard on my sticks and if it's repairable, as buying a new controller this regularly is gonna get expensive =P

I actually opened up the controller, got some WD-40, sprayed once (lightly) inside the L3 analog as it can loosen up the stick and let it sit for about 30 mins and reassemble everything and it's been working for ever since. It is kind of tedious and also have some patience because you can easily tear the ribbon cable that connects to the motherboard if you're not careful.

I recently got a scuf impact and two weeks into using it got the same issue but I managed to fix it so if you have a normal ps4 DualShock then I think you might have to open up the controller if moving the joystick up and blowing in it doesn’t work. I used the scuf thumb stick key to open the left ring and I took the thumbstick off then I literally just blew in it and put it back together but I reckon wd40 might work a bit better if you have it at home.

Hope this helps!
