Can I used compressed air on my exhaust vents?

I've been having problems with my laptop recently. It has been collecting dust and I am afraid that my fan needs to be cleaned.

Yes you can use a can of compressed air to do this. If you use a duster (can usually be found at Walmart or tech stores), this can give you a better way to clean the vents on the computer. First you will need to power down your laptop and removed the battery. This will prevent any potential shock hazards. Next locate the two exhaust vents on the laptop; one will be on the backside and the other one on the back left side of the laptop. Once you have located these on your laptop the next thing you should do is turn the laptop over and rest the edge of it against a flat and solid surface. With the laptop stable you can now use the duster to remove the dust from the vents. This can be done by first making sure the duster can is held upright and spraying short burst of air while slowing moving the straw across the vent. It is important to spray short bursts of air because you can possibly damage the internal fan if the compressed air causes the fan to spin to fast. Repeat spraying the compressed air until all the dust has been cleared.
