Manuel Medina, There could be many reasons for engine not to crank. Check for seized engine, use a socket and bar on the crank pulley to see if engine turns fairly easily if it does engine is not seized OK, if it does not turn there is probably internal engine damage which needs addressed. There is a 50 amp fuse under the hood, called IGN fuse check it. You can also check/test or change out starter relay. Ignitions were also a problem in GM's there may have been a recall(you could check this with local GM dealer). Neutral safety switch/plug/wire could be defective or if standard trans. check the clutch switch(test it). If OK. recheck all your connections and installation, have battery and starter tested as may be faulty. Check the attached links, trouble shooting instruction and guides, Good luck.

I hope this helped you out, if so let me know by pressing the helpful button.

Manuel,

First we need to make a distinction between "Crank" and "Start". Do you mean the engine does not rotate when you engage the starter via the ignition switch, or that it won't start and run?

If it's doing nothing when you turn the key, check for loose connections at the battery and starter. Also check your fuses in the car and under the hood for any that may be blown.

If the engine is turning, then you need to check to see if you're getting spark and fuel. Without these two thing the engine will not start.

I have a 2001 Chevy Cavalier automatic transmission. The car never had any problems and drove great. Until one day I went to the store and as I went to park the car and put it park it would go in par. So I had to hold on the brake pedal. I freaked out and turn the car off. When I came out to start it up it didn’t do anything. However all my lights and everything still strums on. I soon to realize as well that the shifter was loose. What is the solution to the prom?! Please help

I'd say your transmission linkage is loose, Most cars will only start in the park or neutral position. I believe Cavaliers also require the driver to apply the brake prior to shifting.

Look under your hood and locate the shift linkage on the top of the transaxle, and feel if it's loose. If so, manually push the lever into the park position, then tighten up the linkage nut on top of the lever. If that's your problem it should start. If not, it may be your neutral start safety switch is loose or defective. Hope that helps Angela.
