TV won't turn on, starts to, then shuts down

I have an 8 year old, 50" Vizio flat screen, 1080p. We have had a problem in the past that when we would turn it off, it would not turn back on very easily (may have to try it about 50 times). When you would try to turn it on, it would start to come on (green light), but not video - or just a brief flash, then shut down with a flashing orange light.

We left it on for over a year (just turned of whatever device was sending a signal to it so that the screen was black, but the green power indicator light stayed on.

Accidently turned it off and it won't come on now. Tries to, but always shuts down. Even unplugged to top try to get it to reset. Nothing worked.
