Why won't computer read pictures?

I have never had a problem uploading pictures from my phone to my computer until today. Now it is as if the computer isn't seeing that there are pictues, as when 'opens', says file is empty. Yet when I look at the Gallery on my phone, there are several photos and videos on the phone. I need to upload photographs for my business asap. Your assistance would be appreciated. Thank you!
