My 3DS is not charging while I am playing.

The charger that came with the device originally was lost in transition to my new apartment so I bought a new charger from Amazon. The new charger is an off brand just to save a few bucks. The problem now is that I am no longer able to use my device and charge it at the same time. What recommendations do you have for me?
