It needs a full-sized SIM card. If you don’t have a full-size SIM card, you can use an adapterlike this one to make your micro SIM or nano SIM work with your phone. It will only work with GSM carriers such as AT&T and T-Mobile.

If you have the Blu Studio 7.0 II, then to answer your question: No, inserting a Nano SIM card by itself into this phone will not work. To get a Nano SIM card to work with this phone, you will need a SIM card adapter like this one on Amazon (https://www.amazon.com/iPhone-Nano-SIM-C...). Put the Nano SIM into the appropriate adapter, and put the adapter into the SIM card slot in the phone. Then you should be good to go.
