Apple Hardware Test Error: 4SNS/C0000008:Ts0P--124

My MBA had water damage and it would crash randomly. We were able to back it up before we purchased a replacement logic board on eBay and installed it. Now when we start the MBA the fan runs at 6500rpm and kernel_task runs at 400% - googling suggests this is a sensor problem. Running Apple Hardware Test gave the result in the title - googling suggests that it is a bad temperature sensor in the palm rest. I'm not sure what to do at this point.

Any ideas?

You may need to do a bit more cleaning around the trackpad ribbon connectors and check the ribbon cable leaving to the logic board, it may have water damage too.

Often I end up replacing either the full upper case or the discreet keyboard and/or trackpad sub assemblies when I get a liquid damaged system in.

Hi Dan, thanks for answering. I wonder where the faulty sensor actually lies - is it in the cable or in the trackpad? Both cost about the same amount here in the UK (around £20). I'd rather not replace both if I didn't have to. Any ideas?

The discreet sensor is on the back of the Trackpad. But, the cable could also be bad (corrosion).

Hey Dan, thanks again for your advice. I took some rubbing alcohol and cleaned the contacts on the cable that connects to the logic board and started up the laptop and the problem was gone... Huh... Go figure! I'm not sure if this now means that I have a sleeping giant that will wake up again in the future or if the problem is gone for good... In either case I'm happy to have learned what is possible - thanks!

I had this error. Put "defective"trackpad into a new machine. Error gone. Searched the web and people said the webcam cable could also be to blame. Disconnected webcam cable. All issues stopped.
