valve cover won't come off

I have a briggs and stratton Model 310000 engine for my craftsman riding lawn mower. I am trying to look at the valves. I took off the four screws to the valve cover, but the cover will not come off.

Looks like they used glue and not a gasket. I cut around the cover and the seal broke from the glue.

answered your own question . When reinstalling the valve cover you can use an rtv type silicon gasket maker similar to this
