Digitizer / Touch connector damage?

I have recently replaced the screen and it immediately was acting erratic and unresponsive and is now even worse, I also put the previous screen back on and the same is occurring so I'm guessing connector damage during replacement. Although looking at it, the connector (the longest one with no metal clips in the ends) doesn't appear damaged at all, is it possible there is no visible problem with the connector but it still be the culprit or may it be due to something else? If so is it worth replacing the connector? Or just writing off the phone?

It could be the chip on the board itself.

Does the board look ok or damaged in any way?

That's all I am suspecting it could be, as I have 3 different screens and the ame occurs with all three, so it must be the actual phone where the ribbon connects to the board. That's what's weird though cause there is no visible deterioration to to the board or the chips, it all looks fine.

you wouldn't by chance have another 5C you could test the screen(s) on, would you? That would be next step imo.

No I don't unfortunately. It might just have to be a write off.

Its almost always the digitiser connector ends (the plastic gets squashed), if it wasn't doing it before and now is even with the original screen. Being plastic you generally cant tell they are squashed without a microscope, but a good indication is when you don't feel a firm "click" at both ends, or the click isn't the same as it normally would be, which is a little hard to describe. If you are able to take a decent close up photo post it here. I should be able to tell you if that's your issue.

It fairly common on the 5C, especially if you have changed 5S screens in the past, because the connector is actually slightly offset compared to the 5S (although the connector itself is the same)

Yes, this makes total sense as it doesn't seem to click on correctly, and once the connector is in place if i push slightly on one side the connector kind of wobbles (as in, it isn't securely in place). Yesterday I had another play with it and I actually got it working, unfortunately I had to remove again to put on the metal plate, change over the internal camera and mic, home button, etc, to the new screen, and when I connected it again, it again failed to fully work. It responds to touch, just not correctly, if I touch the 2 for example, the "#" key lights up, and hardely responding to swiping. So there is some connection but like you say, it musn't be making a full link.

I will post a picture also, not sure if you will be able to make it out.

Do you have any tips on resolving this, or is it more hassle to fix than it is worth?

Thanks!

@meglees yes there's certainly a way to resolve it, and it will be much cheaper than replacing the logic board of the device. The catch is, its really not something you can do yourself. The FPC connector on the board will need to be replaced. If it helps though, i've assembled a list of some of the best (and fairest) board level repair technicians in the world. The link is on my profile. Hopefully you can find someone close(or close enough) to you via that service who can repair the connector for you.

Cheers
