The Ryobi P202 part of the Ryobi One+ series. This model is an 18-volt cordless 1/2 inch drill, and is bright green and grey in color. It has a built in level gauge and a two gear ratio switch on the top of the drill, along with a direction switch, magnetic tray, and drill bit clip.

Drill will run for only a few seconds

When you pull the trigger the drill only runs a short time and stops. Releasing the trigger and re-pulling it does nothing. If you release the trigger and switch direction, then pull the trigger it run but again only for a few seconds.

Battery is most likely dead. Try charging it,........ . Test it using a multimeter. The batteries can go bad and they will no longer accept a charge.

The battery can be easily tested using a multimeter ,check voltage before charging, then fully charge the battery , then check to see if it has correct voltage after charging,

This is not very helpful ,the batteries are fully charged and the batteries work fine in other Ryobi tools.

I have the same problem with my 7.25" circular saw, my drill and router. All having the same issue, with new batteries. Seems Ryobi tools start dying after about 4-5 years.

I did find if you unplug the battery, you reset the thermal protection, and it will run for a bit longer but still shuts down. Once it heats up you need to let it cool down for 5 minutes or so.
