Green light turns on, but optical sensor has no light. Need help.

Hi,

My mouse is (partially) not working where it couldn't move the cursor but connects via Bluetooth to my mac.

The green light on my Magic Mouse is turning on when you flick the ON/OFF toggle switch. I tried changing the batteries also but to no avail. The odd thing is all the other functions work fine like scrolling, left+right gestures, clicking and right-clicking!

The product has never been dropped or moved around too much either and no signs of physical damage externally. I checked the sensors for hairs or dirt but nothing.

Can anyone suggest anything else to try and fix it?

Hi,

Here is a teardown description of your mouse. They mention a laser sensor and also a 28 contact connector strip on the front of the board, (where the laser sensor is located). You may have to open the mouse (if you haven't already done so), to check that the connector strip is OK. You might also try cleaning the laser lens with isopropyl alcohol on a Qtip. Although it would have to be covered with grime for the light to not even show, but it doesn't hurt to try. Be sure that you have removed the batteries. You don't want to be playing with exposed lasers, when inspecting at close quarters with the naked eye.

Here is a link to a video which shows how to open the Magic Mouse. Also it shows the connector strip is held by a clip. At 7:48 minutes into the video you can see the laser lens.
