Charging Light and Battery Pic But Nothing Else

I've a 2013 Nexus 7 that I replaced a cracked screen with a replacement from iFixit. The device worked fine for a week until the youngest spilled some water on the device and now all I can get is the charging light and the picture of the battery that shows momentarily on the screen when the USB cable is connected.

Any advice beyond replacing the system board or worse yet, scrapping the device?
