noise being emitted when screen is on

There is a constant noise (a bit like when computer games used to load via cassettes!) whilst the screen is on? It seems to come from the whole top area of the device as well as the speakers. Has anyone else had this issue or can anyone help me to eradicate this so I can browse/read in peace!?
