just bought a damaged ipod touch off ebay with the hope of being able to fix it. screen is cracked so i know it needs a new digitizer and it won't power on. pugged in to charger and it won't charge also it isn't recognised by comp. stripped it down and checked power at battery and there is 2.49v don't want to change digitizer yet till i can spark it into life. does anyone have any ideas on where to start, new battery maybe?

the first problem is the battery - as long as the voltage is under 3v - the computer won't recognize it.
i charge them normally with a modified navigation device - i solder 2 cables directly on the battery conracts and charge the battery. others are using a 9v battery and charge the ipod battery for a few seconds - the battery must be resoldered for that - otherwise the logic board will be toasted.
when the voltage is above 3v - the ipod will be recognized and will start charging
so i would try to charge the battery - but be careful - li-po cells are dangerous!
ps: if you know someone who owns a RC car/boat or plane - ask him to charge the battery - they should also use li-po cells and have the equipment to charge them

left and right - you don't need the middle one for that
managed to get some charge into battery by desoldering and attaching it to an old modified nokia charger i had. it now has 3.7 volts and turns on to a white screen with a few grey vertical lines. nothing happens when i plug it into a computer what can anyone suggest my next step to take is.
the lcd is most likely dead - if it where only white it could be a "white screen of death" but the gry lines are pointing to a faulty lcd
